Subject: URGENT: Attend Hearing Opposing SB 227 – March 11
Members,
This is exactly why our association exists. The protections we have worked for over the years — including safeguards against unreasonable rate increases, reciprocity provisions, and fair oversight — are all at risk under SB 227.
If this bill passes, the consequences could be severe. Our board would lose its ability to provide proper oversight, we would have no meaningful input in disciplinary actions, and the only recourse for disputes would be civil litigation against the state.
Even more concerning, if the board is effectively shut down on October 1, the existing licensing laws remain in place. That means if licenses cannot be renewed, many of us could be unable to legally work.
I know these issues often arise on short notice and everyone has busy schedules, but this is one of those moments where our presence truly matters. If at all possible, we need everyone to come together and show up.
Wednesday, March 11 1:30 PM State House
We will meet in front of the State House prior to the hearing. Lanyards with opposition tags will be provided so legislators can clearly see that we are united in opposing this legislation.
Our plan is to:
Meet before the hearing
Visit with representatives
Make it clear that our profession strongly opposes SB 227
Please bring friends, family members, and colleagues. Numbers matter and a strong turnout will make an impact before the hearing even begins.
We will maintain a civil and professional presence. Our goal is simply to share our concerns and help educate representatives who may not fully understand the consequences of this bill.
Please RSVP if possible so we know how many lanyards to bring. You can reply to this email or call me directly.
Thank you for standing together when it matters most.
